Round table «Development of twinning relations: prospects, opportunities, threats» with the sister city Rovaniemi (Finland) within the framework of the III Days of Russian-Finnish cross-border cooperation in the format of videoconferencing

On May 21, 2021, representatives of the Murmansk city Administration took part in the round table «Development of twinning relations: prospects, opportunities, threats» with the sister city of Rovaniemi.

The head of the Murmansk city Aadministration greeted the participants of the round table and briefly highlighted the main directions of the development of the sister cities of Murmansk and Rovaniemi.

Evgeny Nikora invited the Mayor of Rovaniemi Ole-Kirsikka Vainio to develop a draft report on the results of the joint activities of the twin cities on the eve of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of twinning ties, and also invited Mrs. Vainio to take part in the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the city of Murmansk (with an improvement in the epidemiological situation). The Finnish side accepted this proposal.

The head of the administration noted that within the framework of the implementation of the regional project "Our Murmansk" it is planned to develop the urban environment and public spaces. In this regard, the city of Murmansk would be interested to study the ideas of the city of Rovaniemi in the field of urban landscaping.

Deputy head of the administration of the city of Murmansk R. Sinyakaev spoke about the implementation of projects in the territory of priority social and economic development "Capital of the Arctic" and in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Thanks to the adoption of a package of laws, the Russian Arctic is becoming the largest economic zone in Russia and the world with a single set of tax and administrative preferences.

Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development of the Murmansk city Administration Irina Kanash thanked the representatives of the sister city of Rovaniemi for long-term cooperation and announced the launch of the Information Portal for International Cooperation of the city of Murmansk.

Deputy Head of the Administration of the city of Murmansk L.M. Levchenko spoke about the long-term interaction of athletes from the cities of Murmansk and Rovaniemi.

Separately, the roundtable participants informed about the epidemiological situation in the cities of Murmansk and Rovaniemi in connection with the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
