Visit of Sweden delegation headed by the Consul General of Sweden in St. Petersburg Mrs. Eva Sundqvist, Chairman of the Luleå City Council Board, Mr. Nihad Zara and the Governor of Norrbotten region, Mr. Bjorn O. Nilsson

On November 27, 2019, the head of Murmansk municipal unit Andrey Sysoev, as well as representatives of Murmansk city Administration met with a delegation from Sweden: Governor of the Norbotten region Bjorn O. Nilsson, Consul General of Sweden in St. Petersburg Mrs. Eva Sundqvist, Chairman of the Board of the City Council of Luleå, Mr. Nihad Zara, representatives of educational, cultural institutions and business community. 

The purpose of the visit is to contribute to the further strengthening of interregional and twinning, educational, cultural and business ties between Sweden and the city of Murmansk.

Head of Murmansk municipal unit Andrey Sysoev turned to the history of the origin of twinning relations between Murmansk and Luleå, noting the mutual desire of both parties to take an active part in the cultural, social and economic life of each other. He expressed hope that the meeting would contribute to the further development of relations with Luleå, as well as other municipalities in Sweden, the launch of mutually beneficial projects and new promising areas of cooperation.

Chairman of the Luleå City Council Nihad Zara invited the Murmansk city Administration to Luleå with a return visit in the near future.

On November 28, 2019, the Chairman of Luleå City Council Nihad Zara also visited the Youth House and the Murmansk International Lyceum. The heads of these institutions presented the services provided in the field of youth policy and education, expressed their hope for the possibility of establishing cooperation and implementing joint projects with similar institutions in Sweden. Director of the Murmansk International Lyceum S.V. Kamkina in addition to organizing internships and events for the exchange of experience, she also proposed to consider the issue of opening a Russian-Swedish class on the basis of the lyceum.
