Visit of Murmansk delegation to Alanya

On May 11-12, 2019, Alanya Municipality (Turkey) together with TR Turkish Riviera Challenges organized the OCEANMAN International Open Water Swimming Competition, in which the world"s best swimmers from dozens of different countries took part. 

Within the framework of twinning relations, the mayor of Alanya, Adem Murat Yuzhel, sent a letter to the head of Murmansk city Administration Andrey Sysoev, inviting athletes from the city of Murmansk to take part in the competition.

As part of this invitation to the competition, the best athletes of our city in this sport went to Alanya:

 

  • Vladimir Danchenkov – winner and prize-winner of swims across the Kola Bay as part of the Murmansk Mile festival; swim winner of the Russian-Abkhaz Friendship Festival; World champion in winter swimming for men at the World Championships in Rovaniemi (Finland);
  • Olga Meshkova – Master of Sports of the USSR; Champion of the Soviet Union at a distance of 800 meters in freestyle; multiple World Champion in winter swimming and winner of city, regional and regional competitions.

 

Athletes took part in the competition in the 1500-meter distance, without division into age categories. The results of the competition were:

Vladimir Danchenkov – took 6th place in the category "Men" (out of 55 participants at the specified distance);

Olga Meshkova – took 4th place in the "Women" category (out of 54 participants at the indicated distance).
